Day 1: ✔️

I promise a full blog post will come later this week, but for now I just wanted to put it out there for all of my readers-whether you are a teacher, a parent, or student (or maybe even all 3!), YOU DID IT! You made it through the first day of virtual learning! Maybe things didn’t go so smooth, with technology issue after technology issue, but hey that’s life! We are all still alive and everything is OK! The first day of school is always kind of a bumpy one with adjusting to a new schedule, expectations, and new teachers. Even if your first day this year was bumpier than normal, embrace it. For me, today was actually A LOT smoother than I expected it to be. Some minor bumps in the road here and there, but I was pleasantly surprised with how well it all went today. I had no idea what to expect, and I ended my day of virtual learning in a fantastic mood because of it. I went into today, embracing the fact that I expected things to go wrong but it would be ok, and that seriously made all the difference. I know, too, that as the week goes on, it’ll all get easier.

The biggest highlight of my day as a teacher was seeing those smiling faces on my computer screen, all 23 of them. Even though we couldn’t see each other in person, all of them seemed excited and happy to be there (I even got some verification of that by their “First Day Feelings” answers and even a couple parent emails!).

No matter what might have happened today, we are alive and well-teachers are doing everything they can to provide the best possible experience for students; parents are doing everything they can to make sure their kids are set with virtual learning; and the students are doing everything they can to make sure they know what is going on. We are ALL doing everything we can, and the best way to do that is with a smile on our face.

Thanks to organizations like MAEF for this very sweet shoutout to the teachers-that really means a lot to us!

So I’ll leave you with this tonight-nothing is going to be perfect, in fact there are GOING to be problems-we just have to embrace them and work through them. Students might get on the wrong Zoom meeting, a teacher’s internet might stop working (because that has DEFINITELY happened to me before!), parents might forget to remind their child to turn in an assignment…the list goes on and on. No matter what the case may be, just remind yourself that all of this is uncharted territory. We are all learning, we are all new at this, and all each one of us can do is just try our best and embrace the situation we are in! We can’t change it at the moment, so we just have to live it and make the most of it!

(if you don’t start until next week-make sure to re-read this post after your first day next week, you might need the reminder!)

This video is so great for us right about now-check out Kid Superintendent for a good laugh!
