It’s the little things ❤️
The month of November is always crazy for teachers….the start of the second marking period, parent-teacher conferences, students becoming antsy as we get closer to Thanksgiving break. This year, with most of us being in an unusual teaching environment, whether completely virtual, hybrid, etc….doesn’t make this month any easier. It’s especially important, in circumstances like these (teachers or not), to cherish even the smallest happy moments. This past Friday, I wore a t-shirt with the Preamble of the Constitution on it (I loveeeeee the cheesey clothing that relates to what I teach!) and it made my entire day when a student wrote in the chat on Zoom “I love your Constitution t-shirt!”'' It wasn’t even a big deal, but the fact that one of my students was recognizing something I had taught them about gave me such satisfaction as a teacher and put a smile on my face!
Then, my mom surprised me during my math lesson with a coffee from my favorite coffee shop! The day ended with some breakout rooms on Zoom to let my students socialize with their friends. Seeing the students so happy and hearing them laugh with each other brought all the feels! Just trying to find ways to let my students be kids and enjoy being “with” one another even though they can’t be together in person, I know they appreciate my efforts and honestly it seems to even motivate them more during our classes! None of these moments were life-changing or anything like that, but they brought a smile to my face at the end of a hectic week full of finalizing grades, parent-teacher conferences, and Friday the 13th! In trying times that we don’t see an end to, coming into the holiday season that might not be so “merry"“, it’s important to embrace these little victories, these little happy moments, and cherish them! Sometimes even when things don’t seem to be going your way, you can find happiness in the littlest moments! What little moments bring joy into your life right now? Comment below-let’s share and spread some of that joy with one another!
